Lauren Poss
MA, LPC
Licensed Mental Health Therapist
I know that reaching out for therapy can feel daunting—I’ve been there myself--but simply taking that first step is meaningful.
I focus on creating a supportive and consistent space- with warmth and some humor --where you can feel understood and supported. My role as a therapist is to help you make sense of your experiences, and shift patterns that no longer serve you.
Before I began my career in the mental health field, I spent my summers as a wildland firefighter in rural Montana. This experience made me understand how a sense of belonging in our relationships can foster emotional resilience, grit, and adaptability. In my free time, I am usually outdoors, enjoying adventures with friends and my dog, Dora. I also love baking, practicing yoga, and relaxing with horror and thriller movies.
CREDENTIALS & APPROACH
I hold a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Southern Oregon University and am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Oregon. With more than seven years of experience, I have worked with individuals of all ages and backgrounds in both outpatient and school-based settings.
My approach is relational and trauma-informed, drawing from psychodynamic, humanistic, and interpersonal perspectives. We may explore how past experiences have shaped current patterns, while also working to reduce the impact of distressing memories. My style is flexible and attentive to your needs. At times, I may offer more direct observations to help you recognize patterns and deepen your self-awareness.
I bring several years of experience in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), which is a highly successful treatment for reducing the emotional intensity of traumatic and painful experiences. In addition, I incorporate elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to help you build practical skills for managing and tolerating challenging emotions.
