Joie Wiener
MA, Professional Counselor Associate
Mental Health Therapist
Hey, I’m Joie! I’m a proud member of the Queer, Trans, Neurodiverse, and Chronically Ill/ Disabled communities, and I believe in nurturing and cherishing these identities (as well as all others!), and challenging social norms with the radical act of being yourself.
My Style: Empathetic, Curious, Humorous
I have worked with young people in various capacities for over a decade, and have had the privilege of providing therapy to children, adolescents, and emerging adults in the schools and at therapy practices throughout the last 4 years. I focus primarily on acute and complex trauma, neurodivergence (ADHD, Autism, learning disabilities), and gender/sexuality identity development. I’m beyond happy to write letters for school and work accommodations, and gender affirming care!
I’ve also worked in the past as a sexual health educator, and consider myself to be sex positive, and poly/kink informed and affirming.
Back in the day, I realized my draw to counseling while working with teens as a theatre and comedy teacher, so I always use humor and warmth to help clients explore, heal, and carve a safe space for themselves in the world.
CREDENTIALS & APPROACH
I’m a licensed counseling associate, and I graduated from Roosevelt University in 2021 with a dual master’s in both school and mental health counseling.
I work primarily with these modalities:
IFS (Internal Family Systems)- Also known as parts work, this modality explores the various parts of us that protect us from trauma and distress, and the ways they impact life and relationships today.
Psychodynamic- talk therapy that uncovers how unconscious thoughts, past experiences, and early childhood relationships shape your current behaviors and emotional struggles.
DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) - Behavioral therapy that teaches practical skills to manage distress, regulate moods, and improve relationships by balancing radical acceptance with positive behavioral change.
Feminist Therapy- an integrative, strength-based psychotherapy that examines how societal biases, oppression, and cultural identities affect an individual’s mental health
