I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and have focused on becoming a well-rounded therapist and person who can be supportive and helpful to anyone with a desire to make positive changes in their life.
I became a counselor because I enjoy relating to people, finding what makes us each unique and beautiful, and helping others find that in themselves. I love helping my clients connect with who they are and who they want to be. I believe in creating an environment of understanding and education around mental health.
Working in schools, hospitals, non-profit agencies and other organizations has given me the understanding of different resources available here in Oregon to help support my clients.
I have additional training in trauma and addiction as I have seen how important it is for a therapist to understand how trauma and addiction can affect any and all areas of your mental health and well-being.
My approach is to acknowledge that all forms of addiction are a type of coping skill. They are rarely the main or only problem; though they quickly become the focus, which can keep people from getting help with the struggles underneath the addiction. I use Rational Motive Behavior Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help my clients see the need that their addiction is meeting so we can find other ways to cope with stress.
I practice Trauma Informed Care because we all have traumas, big or small, that impact our wellness, relationships and self-worth. I believe in a positive, strengths-based approach to therapy that allows me to partner with my clients and have a better understanding of what is holding them back and what the next steps are to making the changes they want to focus on. I look forward to helping you on your journey.
